Easy Ways to Teach Your Toddler to Read
Some of you know that I am a strong believer in teaching my children through play. Teaching your toddler to read is not as complicated as many may think. Having done this with three kids, I can share some things that have helped us build a great foundation. Early reading offers a ton of great benefits for your child. With every book that they read, their vocabulary and knowledge base grow wider. It is truly rewarding to see what toddlers are capable of. No, you are not depriving them of their childhood, they enjoy this just as much as they enjoy everything else. I will walk you through the steps on how to introduce reading through play and will share the reading system that really works for young kids. To build a great foundation for reading, introduce letters and sounds in all the things you do together. You can introduce them to reading in everything you do already.
"Look and Find" board books are perfect for developing concentration and developing vocabulary. As you introduce new objects to look for, you are introducing your child to new words and sounds. You can make any book a "look and find" book when you ask them to find certain objects in it. There are so many things to find when you ask your child to find things beyond the objects listed on the side.
Alphabet puzzles, alphabet bingo, word builder puzzles are all great ways to introduce letters, sounds the letters make, objects that they are associated with, and help establish the learning foundation of building words.
Daily activities with your child such as painting, drawing with chalk outside, crafting, playing with play dough are all fun ways that you can use to introduce letters and sounds. Even when your child is too young to fully grasp the idea, they will eventually associate the letters with the sounds that each letter makes. On top of all this, using the system linked below helped my child read simple words before the age of 3 and I really think it is a wonderful system to introduce at an early age. It is a fun activity to do together! Through the introduction of fun characters that represent letters, stories and songs that go along with each letter, lots of step by step reading books, as well as a writing workbook, this system helps create a deeper understanding in the mind of a young child. It is simple enough that every parent can find the time for and yet packed with ton of great resources. They make it easy for the parents to introduce each letter and the steps to start blending sounds. Although I think that some stories (not all) may be at times a bit confusing to a toddler, I have altered some stories in a way that I know my child would understand best. Even with that said, I still strongly believe in this system as I can see with my own child that it really works. It makes it a wonderful birthday gift or a holiday gift and I wanted to share it with all the parents.
